WaterShed is an under-appreciated and under-marketed brand that makes outstanding rain gear.

A friend of mine who used to work as a timber cruiser wandering through huge stands of timber in the Pacific Northwest for weeks at a time recommended the WaterShed brand to me and I tried to find a jacket and it wasn't on Amazon and I didn't know where to find them at a store so I called up WaterShed directly and they wouldn't deal with me unless it was a custom order. I spent some time dreaming up a custom jacket with a friendly rep but it ended up being too expensive. So, eventually I purchased a generic WaterShed jacket through a paper catalogue from Wisconsin.

Great jacket! I live in the PNW in Bellingham, where the weather is 48F and drizzle for about 8 months a year. I bike just about every day to work and hike in old growth forests on the weekend, so needless to say the jacket is well used.

So my upper body was dry but I had these cheap Chinese rain pants that just weren't cutting the soggy weather here. After a long mushroom hunt on a very wet day, my legs were freezing while my WaterShed covered upper body was warm and dry.

So no more cheap rain pants. I went out and got some WaterShed pants. And now my body, which is from a place that gets 300 days of sunshine a year, can be comfortable in the land where moss grows in your armpits.

What is special about the WaterShed pants is not just that they keep you dry. You don't sweat in them either because of the well-crafted Gore-Tex material. Also, they are built to last. American-made, folks!

If I had any complaints about them, mine are a bit too big on me. I'm probably hard to size. I'm tall but since I hike and bike everywhere I'm not pushing 3 bills like most American males of my height. So the pants are loose on me. My jacket is perfectly sized around the body but a tad short on the sleeves. The sizing issue is not a deal breaker. As you can see, these are 5 star pants and my jacket is 5 star, too. I've had the jacket for 3 years in this constant 48F and drizzle weather and it's going to last another 10. Really solid construction and great materials.
