I can't say I'm all that old at this point (missed the original airings of Star Trek: The Original Series), but suffice to say I grew up watching Trek. My parent's VHS collection was sparse when I was a kid, but it included several key films, three of which happened to be Star Trek films. Ever since then, I've always wanted to own a costume. Not just one that passes for Halloween, but something as close to the genuine article that I could find.

Anovos Production's run of these uniforms are about as spot on as one can get to what was worn on set. It took months to save up for it, but after putting it on and looking in the mirror, I couldn't help feeling like a kid again playing Star Trek with my childhood friends. The tunics are tailored to general manufacturer sizes, so if you want them to look like the skin tight fit of the third season, you'll have some alterations to do. If a relaxed fit is more your style, no tinkering is required beyond a possible hemline adjustment.

Fair warning: TAKE MEASUREMENTS AND USE THE SIZING REFERENCE ON THE OFFICIAL ANOVOS SITE. If you order through Amazon, you'll be able to return or exchange if the size doesn't fit, but with anyone else (Anovos included) you'll have to either sell the tunic yourself and purchase a better fitting size or find a tailor you trust. Speaking of tailoring, the one annoying bit about the tunic is the collar has two hook clasps to keep it closed (for putting on and taking off) as per the original 60s version. They can be a pain in the rear trying to get on as they tend to catch the excess zipper line that runs up the left shoulder. I was a little too rough with it and tore one off. Thankfully, I'm okay with a needle and thread and was able to repair the damage in a few minutes on my own.

Other than those two things, if you're a die-hard Star Trek fan and you can afford it, I recommend the purchase. With the right pair of pants and boots, you'll be the best dressed Starfleet officer at the Halloween party or the convention floor. Now if only Anovos would get around to reproducing the Wrath of Khan uniforms...
