New Spring 2012 Petunia Pickle Bottom Cosmopolitan Carryall Key Lime Cream Cake Diaper Bag Review

Let me start by saying I am not using this as a traditional diaper bag. However, I am using it as a large purse/tote.
For this reason, I can only give feedback based on that, and am not sure how it would hold up for baby issues.

The bag itself has a very sturdy build. It's built with the hard frame across the top that allows it to open without "slumping" much. It does move a little when left empty, but not a pile of "limp purse".
It's huge - very roomy inside with several pockets and a lining in the green (darkish/olive) color. There is a cute "Cake" label inside with a photo of a woman from the 40s era or something similar.
The hardware is solid and durable, in what appears to be aged or antiqued nickel (see "cake" label on front of bag, the hardware is similar to that same metal).
The bottom has little feet for additional preservation of the bag.

The material is like "carpet bag" type. Very sturdy, thick but not so sturdy that you appear to be carrying a rug! It's just perfect and you won't feel like you are in danger of ruining the bag if it gets wet or somehow you are rough on it. The threading of the embroidery is intact with no loose threading. The top handle and upper frame area are tightly wrapped in that cotton canvas or twill fabric.
There are pockets on each side of the bag, and a totally amazing "secret" pocket on the external "floor" of the bag. You can stash wipes or anything flat/rectangular in that area.

The items that came with it were so nice, too. If you're a mom, these probably will make you happy! a wipey container in that olive chartreuse color, a mini bag (coin purse of the same material with zipper), a folding diaper changing pad, plus a dust bag and i might be forgetting something, but that's about it.

Here are my thoughts overall:
If you are a lover of Anthropologie and that sort of boho chic, and you love big bags, this bag is your thing! If you are a mom and want something sturdy, I still believe this is a good bag for you. All it means is that you'd just want to scan it once a week for any major stains, then spot treat with a soft cloth and probably a little squeeze of mild detergent or ivory liquid. (I always pat, not rub, stains and i've used liquid laundry detergent and had no problem on less-sturdy fabrics....so this should be easy).

I have not had any stains happen, and to be quite honest, i think if you get out the major color of a stain (i.e. green baby spit-up or red fruit juice)....it would probably fade a lot and blend into the bag a good bit. The green is forgiving, and the embroidery flowers seem very friendly to being cleaned also.
My last idea and one that I did myself: spray with 3m Scotch Guard. This is a great way to protect the bag somewhat, and give yourself a little reassurance that you can avoid lots of stains. I did it immediately and the bag was fine, no bleeding or issues. This still means being careful, but at least it's extra help to avoid stains.

I seriously doubt that there are downsides to the bag except one: it's heavy. So if you wear it on your shoulder, be sure to have a backup plan (stash in stroller? pawn off on husband?) after about 1 hour or so, because it can get a little rough if you are a small or have slight shoulders or feel little pains easily.

LOVE LOVE LOVE my bag. I ordered the plum tart one in the clutch version for winter. :D
