This bag is beautiful! Since this is the first review and it is 5 stars, I know many of you will think that this is probably written by someone who works for or is affiliated with Maxwell Scott, but I can assure you that I am not. This bag is wonderful looking. I purchased the chocolate colored bag on the recommendation of the CEO of the company in an interview I heard on a website (listed below). I wasn't sure whether or not to get the chocolate or black. My first instinct was to go for the black because it would match everything (I tend to only wear black leather shoes and belts), but I liked what the CEO said about the chocolate and how well it ages. Now that I have been carrying this briefcase around for a week, I can say it looks amazing (even with black shoes and belts). It has enough contrast that it looks great but not too much that it stands out. I also have to say that I'm not worried about brown shoes and belts either because this is such a deep brown color than most brown shoes/belts that it won't look like your trying to match it (which you shouldn't). The second decision I struggled with was which size to get. This is the largest of this line of briefcases, but it really is not that big because of its accordion style folds. It is no thicker than a typical nylon laptop bag, but it is a couple inches longer.
There is so much about this briefcase that makes it stand out. The stitching is impeccable. It has all brass hardware and a buckle closure (I didn't want a mechanical mechanism as they have the ability to jam/fail over time). On the inside, the bag is the raw leather (not tanned) and is a great contrast to the chocolate color. There are 3 large openings, one has 2 built in card holders, the middle one is zipper top (where I keep my laptop), and the last opening has two cellphone/gadget holders and a pen holder all removal Velcro. Then there are the two large pouches in the front (which don't have a top, but are great for power cables and such. With the flap closed I wouldn't worry about losing anything from the front pouches, but I wouldn't put change in there either!

I've been looking into a briefcase for the last 3-4 months. I started a new job as a consultant at a top consulting firm and didn't want to continue to carry around my things in the GI (General Issue) nylon laptop bag. Thus began my long search for a briefcase.

I know for a lot of people, myself included, price is a very important part of the decision making process. But I for one am a person who is willing to pay for quality and understand that sometimes you pay a premium price to get a long lasting product. I know for many people looking at this product and seeing the $600+ price tag and think I must be out of my mind for buying this bag. Sure for this price you can get many other leather briefcases, such as the Kenneth Coles or many of the other mass market name brands. But you have to ask yourself, if you pay $300 for a Kenneth Cole bag, how much of that cost is going towards their name brand and how much does that bag really cost to make? Most of these companies make their bags in China, Vietnam, and utilize any cheap alternatives possible to make the biggest profit. When you get this bag you will know instantly that it is not one of those types of bags. My wife was a skeptic until I unpackaged it from the box. I also know that for this price tag that you can get a Saddle Back Briefcase for the same price. One of my co-workers own one of their large briefcase and it is extremely large bag and made of extremely thick leather and I'm sure that it will last up to their 100 year warranty. However, I can see why the company name is Saddle Back because it looks like it should be on the back of a horse and not be carried around by someone wearing a suit in a business meeting.
